Three Tips For a Productive Start to the New Year

2023 is here, and it’s time to hit the ground running!

Janu-worry can be a pretty stressful month, with everyone slowly (oh so slowly) getting back into the swing of things - and it’s difficult to know where to start when it comes to picking your business back up after the festive season.

But worry not, help is here! We’ve got you covered with some pretty helpful tips on getting your year off to a fantastic start.

1. Revamp Your Portfolio

No matter what industry you’re in - photography, graphic design, fashion, floristry - there’s a high chance you have an online portfolio. Some of the best advice I've ever received is that you're only as strong as your weakest piece of work. Having a strong portfolio is the key to attracting potential clients to your brand, and making your business stand out from the rest.

The portfolio of work you showcase on your website and socials need to be the strongest representation of you and your wonderful brain. Show people the very best of what you can do!

Keep your body of work fresh, up-to-date and relevant to what you offer. We’re all constantly growing and improving our skills, so it’s a good idea to go through your portfolios once or twice a year and replace older work with newer content.

Rather have fewer, higher quality examples of your work up online, than lots of low quality samples. Quality over quantity every time!

2. Embrace Social Media

Speaking about portfolios, it’s also important to maximise the potential of all your social media channels - whether it be Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or even LinkedIn.

Every platform is a chance to put yourself out there, and get more eyes on your work!

Focus on uploading consistently, using high-quality content, and adding your own unique personality to your posts - your followers love to know that there’s a person they can connect with behind that username.

Plan some tactical content that is relevant to your business - product features, exciting projects, how-to’s, and conversation starters about what you do (to name just a few ideas). It’s important to keep your audience engaged and eagerly waiting for your next post to pop up on their timeline.

3. Overhaul Your Website

Much like revamping your portfolio, updating your website is an especially great thing to do at the beginning of the year!

This could be the perfect opportunity to re-invent the look and feel of your brand, and make tweaks that make your website easier to navigate. You might even decide to add some new features, like e-commerce or a blog.

A new look can make the whole team feel rejuvenated and refreshed, and gives you a great project to work on in this quiet patch.
